Dennis on the Issues

Comer for Council - CD 10

Social Housing and Housing Affordability

Dennis is acutely aware of the housing challenges faced by District 10 residents. He will leverage leadership, community engagement, and policy expertise to champion affordable housing initiatives that empower residents and promote equitable housing solutions. Consequently, it is no coincidence that he was able to get Design Review Guidelines and a City Ordnance passed that led to community voices being heard.

Climate Justice and Environmental Concerns

Having just finished his term as a member of the City of Seattle’s Green New Deal Board and having gone through the process of crafting language for the Mayor of Seattle’s Office, Dennis is  looking to create advocacy for stronger oversight and transparency. He’s particularly interested in looking into the operation and ownership of the area’s public utility companies and making them partners in our climate efforts and accountable to the community.

Alternative Resolution

Dennis wants to redefine some of the roles of the police and prioritize some funding investments towards alternative crisis response models. Not all citizen-related incidents require an armed response. Dennis’ goal is to investigate methods to categorize 9-1-1 and emergency calls to best help the police and other first responders understand the nature of calls and be prepared to dispatch the appropriate alternative resolution trained professionals. Therefore reducing the possibility of an escalation in a situation that may lead to tragic but preventable outcomes.
